that looks like a full adult female. remember these arent like six-lines where they all look the same. h claudia has incredible variation.

IMHO, Dan's is a Melenarus in transition from juvi to adult. I see some gold on the dorsal, both at the front and back.

i dont think so because in h melanarus the stripes are present, and very pretty, as a juvinile. i have 1 now, she looks like a 4" sixline.

i would put money on Dan's wrasse is a claudia-one thats turning into male adulthood

Wholesalers mis ID these things sometime it happens......even the guys pulling and packing can grab the wrong one so either ways its close to H. mel, but you know there are some 600+ wrasse species out there so there are going to be some similiar looking ones, I think in the end they all do a great job of picking nasties out of the tank and eating them!

AND BTW all your pictures Paul look to be different species, look at the black spot on the tail and 1 its on the top fin another its not there at all..........I dont think the spots change based on adult coloration changes but I could be wrong I'm certainly no fish expert!

Where is Robert at? The guy that started the club, Robert Pershing I think haha he was great at fish ID!!

You are absolutely correct, that is why I posted them up. Even the "pros", like you said, can get them wrong.
