I have a koi pond, I used to be heavy into the koi but have leaned towards the reef a lot more the last few years, I love Koi though they are such cool fish compared to the dickheads that just want to fight in a reef tank LOL

Yes, I do. Actually I have two; one is ~5,000g and the other ~800 built in 1993 and 2004, respectively and are stocked with koi. I'm also on the Board of the Pikes Peak Water Garden Society and a member of the Southern Colorado Koi Club (both have websites...). I love my koi ponds as much as I do my saltwater. I lost all my koi (27, if I remember right) the beginning of last summer when the winter pump went hay-wire and electrocuted them. Can you say 'fish-fry'? I said an "F" word many times but it was no where close to 'fish-fry'.

I was at Pet Paradise yesterday and they have a nice koi display. I didn't appreciate how nice a fish they were until seeing those. Now if there salt water dept. only looked that nice. I've never see so many coral skeltons for sale before.

Yeah tell me about it, I have made suggestion after suggestion to them about their saltwater department but it has fallen on deaf ears. One of the workers asked why I don't sell wholesale frags to them and I said because they would probably be dead in a week. The lights need replaced and the nutrients need to really be dropped, but when I told her about carbon dosing you should have seen her jaw drop at the mention of vodka. lol

it's in Pueblo. I think on pleblo blvd. You can mapquest it if you want to drop in sometime. I was there Saturday and am in agreement about the saltwater dept quality. Even the fish were dusty looking or had all out white blotches. Prices are high for dry goods also.

I agree, cool store. They have people coming from all over the southern region and all they have to offer is bad looking livestock.

Been a while since I was there but the koi in the pond are el neato! However, I noticed some things I'd do differently regarding the pond itself though. I'd be interested in what the water parms are...

first mistake...Hand digging a 18'x4' hole in your back yard for an above ground pool.
Key words to remember...... ABOVE GROUND.

2nd mistake...... Assuming that just because it's in the ground and surrounded by dirt that it can't collapse.

3rd mistake...... not charging admission for people to come look at the rafts, tubes and swimmies sticking up out of the mud like some dying $%@ mammoth at the Labrea tar pits.

SOOOOOO...... after two weeks the water finally dried up enough for me to put the liner back in, put another 1600 gallons of water back in to the now koi pond.

Ps............ my two dogs went swimming and ate all but one of the koi.

My dog is afraid of our koi, I guess its the fins. But our puppy will sit and watch the fish swim.

Love Koi, I have two ponds in my back yard. They are not big, but one is 400gal and the other is 100 gal. The little one is where I keep the redslider turtle and some goldfish and the big one has by large goldies and koi. I also have a moat for my ducks, does that count?

A Little off topic,
I was reading the other day that Koi can live 200+ years.
In the same dribble of text they said some jelly fish have no life span and could live forever in theory.
Something to think about
