Do clams change color or patterns when they grow to adult? Or maybe something's wrong. He seems to be just fine, except for the yellowish/gold dots that's developed on him.

how long have you had it? Clams do color up shortly after shipping, I had a batch of 40 that went to dallas and when I got home they were noticably lighter than the others I had got in aweek before and left at home.
Basically those cultured maximas have that gold in them it just colors up after they are in the tank and settled in so to speak.,

Chris, you think its just like coral where the zooxanthellae the clam hosts are adjusting to the lighting in a particular system?

yes for sure, I'm thinking they lose some of the zooxanthellae in transit and maybe they actually absorb it as a food source in transit when there is no light, hard to say, when you think about it they way they can place specific colors and patterns in their mantle its really mindblowing!!

I have also seen some variations where one particular spot on the clam is blue and the rest of it gold.......freak of nature I guess.

I've had it for almost two years and it's always been the same till about two months ago. It seems plenty healthy and has grown well, from 2.5" to 4" in that timeframe.

nice! to bad its not spotted like that over the whole clam. i could only imagine how much a blue spotted gold would run.
