Hello everyone! Back after a 10 year hiatus

    Good morning SCMAS!

I am thrilled to be back in the hobby after 10 years! Lots has changed, but now I live in Pueblo. Iím setting up a 40b as a reef tank currently. You all were amazing to me in my teens, and as I am nearing 30 now, I am sure you will be as amazing!

I just wanted to say hi, and looking forward to chatting with everyone again.

Hello everyone! Back after a 10 year hiatus

    So some updates:

After graduating from CSU-Pueblo back in Ď12, moved to Des Moines for grad school. Graduated from Drake and then moved to Grand Junction for a year, where I worked at Colorado Mesa. My current job, Assistant Director of Student Recreation, opened up and I transferred back to CSU-Pueblo in 2015.

As I said before, Iím living in Pueblo now.

To jog the memory of my old pals on here, my dad had set up a 55g tank which he operated for 5 or so years. He recently got a new job and is working out of the country, and Iíve set up my 40 gallon Breeder to transfer his fish and LR. He was running FOWLR, so the move was relatively simple. He only had a pair of clowns and a blue watchman goby.

Everything is in my tank now, and I have had it up and running about three weeks. Since I used his LR, I avoided a cycle, thankfully.

    Current parameters:

    Salinity: 35ppm (1.025)
Temp: ranges between 78 and 79 daily
    Ammonia: 0
    Nitrites: 0
    Nitrates: 20
    pH: 8.1
    Calcium: 400

Recently (last night) got a test kit for phosphates and alkalinity but havenít tested them yet.

We drilled the tank and made our own overflow with a durso style drain. We got lucky and things just worked the first time and itís silent as can be!

Running a 10 gallon sump holding 5 gallons with 3 chambers: drain (skimmer- aquac urchin) a fuge with LR, and return.

Headed up to the springs today to go to some LFS to find Chaeto to assist with nitrate reduction.

Plans for the reef include softies, and some LPS like hammers and frogspawn. Not planning to add any more fish, maybe a neon goby to help clean, but thatís it. Really wanting to focus on coral this time around.

Corals wonít be added for a few weeks, ordering some AI Prime HD lights first, as I currently have a fluval LED just for intermittent lighting, as I am not keeping it on to prevent nuisance algae.

Is Reefkoi still around? I purchased corals from Chris before, and they were awesome!

Very glad to be back in the hobby and back in this forum. Great people and great support!
