Single ended vs double ended metal halide

Is there any difference in single vs double ended metal galore bulbs as far as efficiency/cost of running them. Also, is the an output / PAR difference

I don't belive there is a huge difference. I think they do put out slightly higher Par because they don't have an outer bulb envelope like single end though. This is why you absolutely have to have a shield on them for that blocks some UV because they will burn stuff. Radium bulbs are actually hqi bulbs that have an outer envelope around them making them a "single end". I run singles with a shield as well though because if they get splashed they will explode and more than likely kill your tank as well because of it. Reefkoi has first hand experience with them.

    Sweet thanks for the info!
In my mind I was thinking the double ended were new technology and might be more energy efficient LOL
