    Recommendations for 8' Acrylic Aquarium?

I'm considering either building or having someone build an 8-foot long acrylic aquarium. It will definitely be cross-braced. I'm thinking 30-32" tall. I found a couple calculators online. GARF says 1/2" thick, and DIY Fishkeepers says 1". Obviously, 1" would be stronger, but I wonder if it needs to be that much stronger. Anyone have personal experience in this?

There is an awesome post on reef 2 reef all about acrylic. Id post up on there and see what they say. Obviously thicker the better though.

Our preference would be a tank long enough to span our 12' wall. I have a feeling that would be a bit too expensive.

Make it out of ice and have a cold starfish tank!

Joe, 8 months of the year that would work. My ATO would use snow.

Kutcha, if I have the pieces pre-cut I'd think 18" would allow me to get them from the same sheet as the top and bottom
