    5 gallon horse tank build

Here's a little something that's been in the works for a while now. I've built a little sea horse tank. The build had ups and downs but it's running and we are starting the stocking. Don't worry, I took pics of the whole build. Here are some to look at. This is Thanas tank, she has put all of the research into selecting the things in the tank and has helped to figure out how to put it all together. I did the building and I may have steared her towards horses... It was a team effort and we both love it. We will be getting more livestock and plants from Jimmy at Pidaz.

I started with a 5.5 gallon tank that was a freshwater shrimp tank in a former life. Marked it for drilling and then drilled.

    Bulkheads in.

Started to figure out the plumbing.

    Made a quick little overflow.

    Put it in.

Made a sump for it. the far right chanmber is an ro/di res.

Made a stand for the sump and decided to integrate the ATS into the overflow.

The glass on the end cracked so I replaced it with 1/4 inch thick glass from a 40b that I cracked a while back.

Put it all back together and filled it with sand, rock, and water.

All rock and sand was cycled and ready to go from my 4ob so this tank to no time to cycle.

Added a gorgonia and some horses.

Horses are dumb. I had to buld a fence to keep them out of the sump.

2 days after getting here one of them gave birth.

Here's a front shot of the tank from last night when the macros were put in. front view.

    Back view.

The horses seem to like the macros.

Awesome. Loving my horsey tank. Gotta keep flow low and they eat way more than you'd think they could, little pigs.

    Wow, very sweet!!!
Did you say that you doubled the glass(and thickness) on the drilled end for increased strength?
JJ, do you carry the gorgonia and macro?

I cut out the end glass when it cracked and replaced with the 1/4 inch. I was going to just buy another 5.5 gallon but decided that the thicker glass would be better.

Are your reds low light or photosynthetic? Most of the reds I've found want low light. I accidentally bleached a piece of a piece of monti ._. Happened in two days! It was a frag of a frag of a frag, but I'm not interested in murdering anything else.

So this happened after coral con. Skip to 2:30 if you want to skip some of the labor. You'll see three of the 4 babies being born.

This tank is crawling with rotifers and pods. We feed the rotifers and pods filter feeder foods and they feed themselves to the horses. The babies eat whatever they catch.
