Finally some more meaningful progress was made. I got the frag tank all plumbed in on Sunday.

Today I finished up mounting the lighting canopy/shelf above the tank. I'm planning to run halides on the frag tank as well. I am toying with led on one side and Halide on the other depending on the corals, but that will be later.

Now I'm off to finish the ATO brackets I made for floats and the brackets I had to fabricate to secure the Sea Swirls a little better. I'm really getting close now. I'm waiting on some plumbing parts for the final connections for the return but I'm in the home stretch.

Here is what the top off mounts look like. I glued a piece of acrylic inside the sump and threaded holes for thumb screws and the mounts are adjustable so I'm not stuck to one level. There are 2 floats so that there is a fail safe if it keeps pumping too much. I still need to drill the holes for the floats.

Will you put something between the frag tank / lights and that water barrel? Looking great...

Thanks. I probobly won't put anything there because that's my mixing tank and it will be empty unless I'm making saltwater for the next day so I shouldn't have to worry about algae.

You have a lot of great ideas you are implementing in this build.

Thanks Joe! I'm trying to change the things I have always found to be a problem with my other build. This being my first and likely last adventure in a large new tank/fish room experience, I'm trying to make it as functional as possible. This has been part of the long drawn out process of doing this build but I don't want to fire it up until it's just the way I want it. I know how hard it is to change things later on!

Finishing up plumbing in the return today

Thought I was going to get plumbing done today.... But... I made a mistake on a cut! I cut a piece an inch too long and didn't realize it until I glued it up to the check valve, $40 mistake. Now I wait until the new check valve shows up, then I can finish.

I got the floats all installed installed though, so that's progress.

All that's left is to figure out where all the Apex stuff is going and get cords, then we fill'er up!

That's exciting. I invested in apex extensions, but I dont recommend placing the chords behind a faux wall. This proved to be a huge PIA when a module took a s*** and I had to spend an 8 hour day to revamp my chord. Also, I strongly recommend not zip tying your excess chords as it make more of an issue in troubleshooting.

Good tips, thanks. Im still on the fence about getting the apex cables or just going with USB cables. I just don't understand why their cables have to be so expensive. I need quite a few cables so it's going to add up pretty quick.

Yeah it seems to be fine to use USB cables if they don't have in line repeaters and don't amplify the power. Most usbs that are 15ft or less don't have them, it's the long ones you have to look out for. I'm already out of the warrenty period anyway and I haven't even used it yet so I'm tempted to go usb.

I've used some USB extension cables with my Apex and have no problem. They were the affordable ones, maybe Monoprice or AmazonBasics brand.

Yeah that's what I have read as well from other people's experience. I think I was looking at the monoprice ones when I was researching.

Finally got around to making some brackets so I could mount the switches for the storage and mixing tanks.

I ordered some breakout boxes and switches last night so I can get going on the Apex, that will start tomorrow. I also need to install the led light strips under my stand so I can see better now tomorrow.

Just finished making some of the diy breakout boxes from Avast, now I'm working on the project box for all the switches. I got all the mounting panels made and painted for all my apex stuff yesterday and I'll get on mounting those up later after a waterchange.
