A little more tinkering today for fun. I got the bean animal drains in the overflow box. The left is the full siphon, right is durso, and the middle is the emergency drain. Can't wait to test this out, it just makes alot of sense to me and I want to see it in action.

I got a good start on the lighting rack, hopefully I will finish up this weekend, minus the lights and ballast rack. It's going to be made of anodized aluminum and 316 stainless for everything so I never have to worry about rust. I think should weight in with lights and everything around 130lbs or so, but the actual rack is only about 40 ish itself. It will be suspended from 6 stainless all thread from pocket door tracks and rollers from the ceiling.

Got the light rack up finally. Took longer than I hoped; I had some setbacks because I had to order more parts. Here it is finally hung up! Still have leveling and tightening everything up on the all-threads but it works great. I need to add the top deck for the ballasts and lighting fixtures but it should be awesome!

That's sweet!
Don't look here for a comment.
Thanks Joe! I'm really glad I spent the time and money to build one like this It's going to be so handy to be able to roll the lights out of the way or off the tank to work on lights and do maintenance. Its also nice knowing this thing can't rust or deteriorate either.

Everything is looking really good man, can't wait to see this after it has been up and running for a bit.
I do have a question for you though. I'll be redoing the plumbing on my new 60g Cube tank this weekend (the old one started leaking) and was wondering if I needed to glue the joints pointed out in this photo:
My is slightly different that in I'm using two 90° elbows coming off my pipes that enter from the bottom of the external overflow via uni-seals. I'm thinking if I don't glue them, I could pull the pipes completely out of the overflow for cleaning/maintenance if needed. The only one I'm not really sure of is the top one on the left side. I think that one will be above the water line (by design of the BA system) and might suck air. I could glue that top one and still remove the whole U section if needed.
Thanks, I can't wait either! I glued everything on mine except where it goes into the bulkheads at the bottom and the vertical sections above thise. I did that for the very reason you stated, I didn't want them to suck in any air. Obviously the bulkheads wouldn't matter because they will be under water anyway and if I need to change up lengths it's easy to do because the stand pipe portion isn't glued. Press fit would prob be fine though, I doubt it would suck air in really I'm just overly cautious about stuff.

Made more progress on the light rack this weekend. I got everything mounted up tight and the platform for the ballast attached. I put the 2 extra pendants I have up tonight. I just need to mount the sockets on them and then I can start on the t5's.

Two 400’s or 250’s

It's actually going to be 4 metal halides. I just have to wait until I take my other tank down to put the other 2 pendants in. They will all be 250w. This tank is only 2 inches deeper and I'm going to be running 3 t5's and 2 100w led strips that are extra from what I run now so I should be good on light with the 4 250's. I may cut them back a couple hours a day too from what I run them now because I may have too much light, we will see.

Been forever since I updated this thread. I have made some progress but between work and school it's been hard to find time. Life is crazy right now but I'm chipping away. I'll get some more pics posted up here soon. I did finally get some drawings done for the sump I want to do. Original plan was to build my own because it's not that hard and I enjoyed doing my other one, problem is time to do it!
I sent off requests for quotes to:
Geosreef
Advanced acrylics
Midwest custom aquariums
Lifereef
Elite aquatics
Bashea
Synergy
MRC
If anyone thinks of any more or has experiences with any of them let me know!
Here are the drawings, will be 2 sumps connected. Let me know if you have any suggestions ect, not set in stone yet!

You said you have been busy.

I think Pidaz only does glass stuff. I want to do acrylic for easy changes and additions as well as weight for getting it where it needs to go.
