It happens. If I wrote down everything I could have done better over the last 4 weeks bro, I'd go insane with sorrow.

Lol, I know what you mean. I have a 30ish million dollar expansion I have been a little tied up with at work that has taken a bit more time than I would like of my life lately. I want my damn tank done instead! I just shot him an email. Drawings are the same but in pdf an dmuch easier to read.

I got all of the tile done a few weeks ago and I'm just waiting to have the trim installed and then the actual basement is almost done.

Here is the work I have been doing to finish up the light rack. First I made some mounting areas for all of the t5's out of black starboard.

I got all the end caps mounted for the 6 bulbs and just need to wire them up. The 2 Halide pendants that I have are now all done as well, just need the other 2 from my current tank when I take it down.

Led strips are also mounted.... let there be light to the beast.

Looks really good. Remind me of the plan to lower and raise the light again.

Thanks. The whole frame is suspended from all thread and everything is supported by washers and nuts on the all thread. By adjusting the nuts up and down the frame will move up and down the all thread. It sounds easier than it is in reality but that's the gist of it. After doing it I would implement some changes to make it easier in the future to make adjustments whenever I would like easily. As it is if I had to adjust it it's more of a pain than it could be but I don't think I will ever actually be adjusting it now that I have it set where I want it.

Ok. So this won't need to be raised for maintenance? Thanks for the run down.

Thanks. I got all the t-slot from 8020.net. They have good prices on the t-slot and are pretty close to everywhere else. Now with the hardware and mounting plates they are absolutely insanely hight priced, this is where things get expensive anyway. I did have to get the t-nuts from them because it's the only place I could get them in stainless. (everything is stainless or aluminum) I got everything else from Tnutz.com which is 50% less. I used 316 stainless everywhere I could and used McMaster Carr for alot of the hardware.

No, that's why it's on the rollers in the ceiling. I just push it back and it ends up completely away from the back of the tank + about 2ft from the back. Gives full access to the top of the tank and I can stand underneath the rack to do bulb maintenance or anything else.

Looks good. Will you make a setup like that for me? For free? I've been contemplating mine for a couple of years, and apparently that doesn't actually get anything accomplished.
Don't look here for a comment.

Sure I'll make you one for free, but you have to buy all the pieces for me to build it.

I had some setbacks this weekend and didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to. I got all of the ballasts mounted, apex outlets, and spots for the other 3 MH ballasts when I take those off my current tank. I got everything mounted back up. I'll try to wire everything else and tidy up this week.

I got one MH fired up to check out the spread. I'm really happy with it. Even though it's a 30" tank and only a 14.5" reflector, it works perfectly.

Been slacking big time on the build. Work and overall basement finishing have my attention right now so I don't have any real progress. I did get the light rack all done except for the 2 MH I will need off of my current tank. Next big hold up is the sumps, they won't be done until Aug so again it's hurry up and wait. I still need to do tile around the front of the tank and make the upper cabinets on the front though. Right now I'm shooting for October to have it up and running. October will also put it at the 2.5 year mark since I started planning. I can't wait to have all this done though, it's going to be really nice.

Yea tell me about it. All of the places are super busy right now and had long waits so it is what it is. At this point though with how busy I am I don't think I would be able to build one myself by then either. That's the last big hurdle to getting the tank going atleast. It's funny I have several thousand dollars worth of equipment sitting in boxes just waiting to be used, hope they all work still.....

This entire thread has been an inspiring read for me. To see someone put this much time, effort, thought & money into a home hobby aquarium is just phenomenal. Iím sure the pictures donít do it justice either. Hope you have a paper towel holder somewhere close because Iím sure there are going to be a lot of people drooling over this when they see it in person. I know I will be if I get the chance to see it. Great work!!

Thanks. I'm pretty particular about identifying problems before they can become problems. Some call it ****, I say it's efficient lol. We all know building a new system is the funnest part of this hobby. It's been alot of work for sure, but it will be worth it and prob the last big expansion I will ever do so I want it to be as perfect as possible. Everyone has a money pit and reefing is mine for sure.
