Anyone else ever noticed algae growing especially on egg crate? I recently put a large egg crate setup into my tank while I rearranged the rock and within a day I had algae growing on the lower-light levels of it when there was none growing anywhere else in the tank. It left me with the impression that egg crate probably leaches phosphates. I've read online that this is true and also that it goes away after a few months but this egg crate was in a sump for over a year several years ago so it all should have leached out by that logic.

It was really surprising to me and because of this I won't be putting egg create in my tanks again. Anyone else have a similar experience?

By contrast my eshopps acrylic frag rack never grows algae on it.

It grows on egg crate readily. I think partially because of the white color reflecting light and giving a little boost in the conditions for it. I have black egg crate in my sump and it seems to collect less, but still grows it before other parts of the tank.
Don't look here for a comment.

I actually took mine out for now. Did a massive water change and checked levels. It's totally cycled, looking better and has not a single critter in it. I need critters!

I agree. I switched to acrylic racks (hooked made them for me) with wholes frilled in them. I was hesitant at first because of the lack of flow that they provide, but now they are covered in coraline and allow the flow to pass underneath (while cleaning the bottom of the sandless tanks) and provide a nice eradict flow at the top where the actual coral is.

Tank looks better without the frag racks in it BTW. Love the rock you chose.

I see you have an LG V10 as well. Did you get the special with the extra battery and 200gb micro sd card?

Today was a good tank day.

I got my wifi controller for the fluval light, fairly easy to set up once I watched the video on the site. Simple controls, not a ton of options as it's on'y 2 channels but it gives me 24 hour control with night lights and sunrise/sunset.

I went to see a guy about some corals. Thanks Bush! I ended up getting a 5 head colony of torch, 3 different types of mushrooms, a 3 head colony of blue candy cane, and some zoos. I'm still waiting for everything to settle in completely but here are a few photos of what it looks like so far. Sorry the water is a bit cloudy, I just did a PWC and kicked up a bunch of stuff.

I built a simple DIY skimmer for the tank last night. Total cost to build.... less than $8. The craziest part is that it works!

    Interesting, YouTube or own design?
