If you're just wanting to grow plants like macro or micro algae, I recommend something like this LED: http://www.amazon.com/Efficient-TaoT...ords=plant+led

I used a couple 4W red/blue LEDs and grew a nice crop of algae on my scrubber. They run cool and don't use much electricity. I got mine on Aliexpress.com, though, and saved a ton of $$$ for identical items.

I have the 12w TaoTronics and it didn't grow much on my algae scrubber so I removed it. The light focus was also too narrow covering an area only about six inches across which might be better for a sump/fuge so that it didn't have to be that close. I haven't tried it with cheato in a while and may run a test one of these days. Not real impressed though and have had much better growth CFL.

led light bulb on scrubbers and the full spec over cheato. Cheato gets lit 2100 to 1300 and TASs get lit 24/7

    Cleaned today

    Just put new scrubber up

Using 60 replacement led bulbs on TAS
