Question Ideas for DIY Overflow grate

Here is a picture of the space. It's about 6"x6"(not perfectly square if it matters)

Not sure what to do to build a grate for this space that won't damage fish if they accidentally hit it. Looked at gutter grates but those seem very abrasive.

    Thoughts?

You can make one out of acrylic and cut the teeth into it, or drill holes in it.
Don't look here for a comment.

Stupid question then I guess, but where would I source acrylic that is sized small enough to fit in that space? ~ 1/8th inch thick

I assume something like this will work? I'll buy a sheet tomorrow if I can.

That should work. Levi was telling me that it's easier to drill holes in the over flow instead of two slits. I'm sure he will chime in.

This is what I used and it works great plus it is smooth on both sides so non abrasive.
