    Starfish spawning

It was hanging upside down from the bottom of my sunburst basket. It fell off after about 5 minutes of me starring at it. The lights have been offf for a few hours now. Their is another Australian star, cleaner shrimp, some gorgs, 30 or so nems, and a huge cuc (no crabs) in the tank as well as a seaapple (that has no signs of anger or unhappiness. The matter looks like a net of sorts and he has not released it at all. It appears that the slime is seeping from small wholesfrom the top side of its body. There has been no changes to anything in the system at all. He doesn't look deflated but he did just crawl the other star and kept walking as if nothing is wrong. Thoughts?

Cool. I've never seen that, but they are known to stand on their tiptoes when spawning. It looks like it was doing that, sort of, but upside down.

Oh, and 30 nems?!? Did you throw one in a ninja blender or something?

I started going downstairs late at night more often lately. It seems that the nem tank really comes alive. Half the nems close up and the other half are bigger than when the lights come on. The conch snail bulldozes his way around and runs right over the nassarius snails that are searching the sand bed for food. My 3" turbo snails always move to the highest tonga rock they can find like they are afraid of the banded trochus. The nem crabs move from nem to nem as well.

It gets very dark downstairs at night for 4 hours and the tank comes alive like a night at the museum.

I do the same thing. It is a whole different tank at night.
