    Hello

I have been enjoying my planted tanks and have recently decided to join the ranks of the reefers. The learning curve is immense and now I am a noob all over again. I am hunting for a large tank (120+) and will then start acquiring all the things I will need to have a successful reef tank. Currently I have 29g, 75g, and 150g planted tanks. So the thought of having bigger and brighter fish along with beautiful corals was quite appealing to me. I look forward to picking all of your collective brains and I will lean heavily on your experience.

    Thanks,

    Jim

Welcome. Aquatic Arts had a full tank set up listed for sale on their forum.

The tank at Aquatic art is a deep dimension 250g and is worth every penny they're asking ($2,500) I think.

When and where is the meeting? Also I did see the 250g at Aquatic Art and he had lowered it all the way down to 2200 but that is too much for me atm. I was more interested in the 150g next to it. I may be up in Denver today and I just might swing by to look at that one again.

Welcome to the club. Always exciting to shop around for a new tank build. Lived in WA for a few years and don't miss it a bit. Keep us posted on what you decide to do

Well I just bought a tank. It was an Aqueon 120 with two drains and returns, nothing fancy. I bought the 40g breeder that Jim G recommended to me. I am completely clueless on how to build the sump or how to plumb the tank. I will use one of my aquaticlife 4 bulb T5 to start out. I will have to save up for the leds that I want. I was looking at the reef octopus skimmer and getting some dry rock and sand. I will need 1 or 2 pumps and a couple of power heads? Is there anything else that is a must have to get started?

For testing the standard ammonia, Ph, nitrites, nitrates is a must (high range Ph, otherwise same tests as for fresh water). If you want a good reef tank, then calcium, alk, and magnesium. Heaters are a must too, figured you planned for them already but they're spendy! Also, a small thing but a big one, check valves on return lines. Sorry if any of this is redundant, I'm sure you're an expert with tank stuff due to the planted tanks

Welcome to the craziness of saltwater!

I did plan for heaters (I have a couple lying around that are big enough) but the pluming of the sump is all new to me. I will be sure to include check valves though thank you for that. Can I use my canister filter for gfo and carbon? I would just leave out the sponges so no nitrate?

I have a skimmer rated for over 200g and plenty of dry rock for sale. Let me know if you want to swing by and check it out. I will make you a good deal on a packaged deal.
