Modding a cable to run Jebao pumps with an Apex http://carolinareefers.com/showthrea...ump-to-an-Apex.

I haven't done it yet, but I intend to. I have the ReefAngel cables and just need to build the second half with the ethernet connection.

That DIY breakout box Is awesome. I'm going to work my way up to an apex at some point this year and I was already researching DIY apex stuff and ran across that thread. Fairly certain once I bite the bullet for apex that'll be on my to do list. Thanks for starting this thread

Soooooo, saving up my perks awards for the apex. What would be my first purchase???
Apex lite, gold, jr? What modules are the best starters?
As some of you know, I'm am so not a techy and will need help setting up and programming. My jebao pump is still sitting there half way peaking out of the box. I managed to set up the osmolator and I'm immensely proud of myself, but the programming on the apex is way above my ability.
In other words...in need help with the purchase and set up

Would skip on the gold and just get the apex with lab grade ph probe... my understanding is the only difference is a salinity probe... and in my opinion... meh

Salinity probes are very sensitive and break very easily. I watched all of the brs videos on the apex and went with the standard ph probe package. The lab grade is a waste of money as you will most likely be replacing probes once every few years at least. The lab grade would be good for doing something advanced like a sulfur reactor where it lowers the ph and so you can figure out how much buffer to add to bring it back up before entering your system.

Do I need anything extra to hook up my kessil or do I just plug them into the power strip and done? Right now, I run them with the kessil controller which was hard to figure out. I'm still not sure if I have a good program set up, since there were no presets at all.

You need a cable if you want to do the dimming, if you just want on and off then you can just plug it into the eb8

There is a new firmware out for the Apex. It came out about a week ago.
To download the firmware please navigate to the firmware portion of the Neptune Systems website:

So I have been helping a friend with his Jebao/Eco pumps and trying to get the apex to do wave mode as well as some advanced random flow patterns similar to reef crest mode. This is my best attempt so far and he will be running it and give me feedback in a week or so to see how it is performing.

    2 pumps on wave mode

    If Outlet V_Surge = ON Then Wave_L
    If Outlet V_Night = ON Then Wave_Low_L
    If FeedA 030 Then OFF

    Wave_L profile looks like this
    Synchronize = Enable
    Divide by 10 = Enable
    Initial Off Time = 0
    On Time = 7
    Off Time = 4
    Minimum Intensity = 0
    Maximum Intensity = 100

You can guess what Wave_Low_L looks like

Surge and Night set my time parameters so that I can use a lower speed profile for night time and a higher speed profile for during the day

2 pumps not on syncronized random flow modes

    If Outlet V_Surge = ON Then Con_65
    If Outlet V_Night = ON Then Con_32
    If Outlet v_p35 = ON Then Con_35
    If Outlet v_p37 = ON Then Con_37
    If Outlet v_p40 = ON Then Con_40
    If Outlet v_p42 = ON Then Con_42
    If Outlet v_p45 = ON Then Con_45
    If Outlet v_p47 = ON Then Con_47
    If Outlet v_p50 = ON Then Con_50
    If Outlet v_p70 = ON Then Con_70
    If Outlet v_p100 = ON Then Con_100
    If Outlet v_p90 = ON Then Con_90
    If Outlet v_p85 = ON Then Con_85
    If Outlet v_p80 = ON Then Con_80
    If Outlet v_p75 = ON Then Con_75
    If Outlet v_p95 = ON Then Con_95
    If FeedA 030 Then OFF

One of the virtual outlets for example looks like this
    OSC 000:25/000:10/000:05 Then ON
If Outlet V_Night = ON Then OFF

They all have different OSC time frames

Basically I have a bunch of virtual outlets that set the time parameters for the OSC function and I have profiles for Constant flow at a certain speed or % of power that the variable ports send to the units.

So far the 2 pumps are doing wave mode just fine and the other two pumps are randomly rolling through the speeds, notice the lower speeds are for night and the higher speeds are for the day.

I am making outlets/profiles to do the return pump and a dc skimmer pump as well, all working off the same feed timer. The return pump will "swell" throughout the day just increasing flow and decreasing flow, the skimmer will be off for some time during the day, run dry for some time and run wet for some time. I am going to make an alternate skimmer profile that will work with the dosing pump that basically will turn the skimmer off for 30 minutes as soon as the dosing starts.

So the initial report is in and the results are good, the polyp extension on the acros are better than ever with the new flow patterns!
