    Protein skimmer size

Is it possible to have too big of a skimmer (recommended aquarium/system size)?

Is it possible to skim too much?

Yes it is. Most skimmers are over rated from the get go. Unless you are running a 500 gallon rated skimmer on a 55 I think you should be OK. You can also set the skimmer on a timer and turn it off during the night.
