    Help: Large Regal Angel

Hey everyone, it's time I reach out for some help here regarding the regal angel that I put in my system last week. I know that they are poor shippers, and if they make it to you alive it's hard to get them to even eat. That's where I'm at right now... The angel has been in my tank for a week just about and won't accept anything that I offer him which includes:

    -fresh clams in shell (halfed)
    -nori
-standard garlic soaked spirulina brine, small mysid shrimp, and large PE mysid
    -rods food

Whenever presented with food he will literally shake it off when it's in front of him, so I don't think Roe would work either.

He is getting the cloudy eyes as of yesterday, and his skin is a little foggy as well. I'm looking for some help because I don't have a qt as there is no room in my apartment for one (I know it's not a safe practice at all, but it's not in the cards currently) so if anyone has a qt they would let me house him in to help treat him and get him eating id appreciate it a lot. I'm open to any ideas, I just don't want to sit on my *** while a beautiful fish isn't doing well.

I'm in Aspen until early tomorrow afternoon. Thanks guys.

He is gonna head over to you for the food. If you wanna help out tomorrow if you aren't busy that'd be sweet. I'm not even sure what to treat him for.

    Jim,
    Found this on "Reef Sanctuary":

With two cloudy eyes, (B) injury is unlikely. The fish most likely has a (A) bacterial infection. Move the fish to a QT and treat with an antibiotic. Improve the fish's diet (see (1)). I would suggest Nitrofurazone. Just follow directions on the medication. Don't return the fish to the DT until the eyes are clear.

If the diet isn't proper, you can choose to move the fish to the QT and inprove its diet AND treat with an antibiotic or just keep the fish in the DT and improve its diet. From my perspective, most hobbyists don't feed their fish properly, so moving to the QT, looking into improving diet, adding vitamin and fat supplements to its food, and giving an antibiotic treatment is the best approach. In a QT the fish can more easily targeted for feeding AND you only want to use an antibiotic on a fish in quarantine. Use an antibiotic that is for 'topical' (surface) infections. One of the best is Nitrofurazone (found in the product Furan-2). Look for this ingredient in the antibiotic you have available.

In either/both of the above cases (i.e., either one or two cloudy eyes), you still want to look over your system. Follow what is in (2). Returning a healed fish back into a sub-standard environment is not going to keep the fish from getting re-infected.

You can't dose antibiotics in a tank, it will wipe out all bacteria. All. We dose erythromycin for gill disease on the designer clowns we get in because most of them have come in with it. It wipes out all bacteria and water quality goes to crap, even in a qt. When the treatment is done we have to do a 100% water change, rinsing the tank out, to prevent even the remaining antibiotics from killing the new water (we fill qt with water from our main tanks, so plenty to kill). That being said, I do think you'll want to qt. For food, try roe or frozen brine soaked in something called "entice". Really thought I was going to loose my rubys to starvation until I tried roe soaked in that stuff. It's not garlic, some other weird smell, but the fish go bonkers. I have some I could give you a small bit of to try if you want. Also, I recommend dosing prazipro simultaneously with the antibiotics, just in case.

No, it's just a flavor enhancer from seachem. Selcon has all the fats and vitamins, this just smells.

Try adding some cheap zoas to the tank and see if he eats those. I know you don't want to create any bad habits but he will probably eat zoas anyway. Some calories would be good before he goes downhill.

This may be a REALLY dumb question, but can you buy a sponge from walmart, or does it have to be actual live sponge? If it has to be live, where do you get that on short notice?
