    My new tank!

HoneyBear finally found me a new 125 to replace the one that accidently smashed on the stairs. It was a reef tank before we got it so I finally get to try my hand at integrating a sump into my brackish system.uploadfromtaptalk1410631221582.jpg

    My new tank!

After months of waiting I am finally getting off my fifth point of contact and setting up my planted 125g. I killied 11 of the 14 new tetras (super sad face) I finally purchased and after much deliberation with Honey Bear I decided to go full fresh planted. I removed my clown fish and have started the slow process of converting all of my fishies in the 55g to fresh water. Armed with some great advice from Just_Tim, and lots of complaining at myself about the mess I am making in my laundry room, the first bag of organic top soil is sifted and dumped in the 125g. I am in the middle of moving our bedroom out of the basement and back upstairs so that we may have an entire floor of our postage stamp sized house dedicated to aquariums. Yes, I have finally seen the light!

    WOWOWOW nice dirty pics!

LOL I am glad to hear that you are letting Honeybear have his own dedicated man cave.. er I mean fish room!

Once my fish room is finished it will be my fortress of solitude and I am ever thankful for my wife letting me have the space as I am sure Honeybear is thankful for you "seeing the light" lol.

Nice. I just finished this exact same project in the last week. Took about 4 weeks of prep for the soil which wasn't optimal, but so far the water has stayed clear and no algea problems. Most of the plants are showing new growth as well!

Good luck and keep the updates coming. What kind of fish or critters are you going to go with?

Honey Bear let me take advantage of the petco buy two get one free sale (so he could get more fish for his tank) and I picked up two lemon cichlids and one dojo Loach. My poor frogs are feeling a little crowded. I already have a cat fish who is about ready for a bigger tank, some Mollys, a dragon goby, and a knight goby. I want a huge school of neon tetras once I have the 125 up and cycled.

I just put two dozen Neon's into our tank. They look fun as they school, but it would look better with 50 more. They tend to disappear in a tank this size.

I was going to go to petco and buy them out for all their tetras but I don't have anywhere to put them.

You will learn. We call this a need for a "holding tank". Another excuse for more water.
