    ZOA and PALY help

So when I got some of my corals back, they all looked great. As of late they all aren't opening. I still see color so I know their not dead. I've read so many opinions. For instance a 10 polyp frag May only have 3 open heads. It's the same 3 heads daily. I don't know what to do???????

As long as they are not melting away or shrinkin up. Don't worry about them yet. How long have they been closed. I've had some that were closed for months. Even sprouting new heads that would not open. Just watch them closely and give them some time. DO NOT start monkeying with stuff just yet.

They have been closed over a week. I haven't touched anything. As long as I see color, they shouldn't be melting correct?

What are your parameters? Some times a drop of lulgos will help them too.
We need to talk sometime about what I have found helps zoas.

Ok. I'm going to let them be right now. I'll keep an eye on them.

Sorry, I spelled it wrong. Lugols is a concentrated iodine.

SWEEEEAAAAT!!!!! You HAVE to stop beating yourself up ALL of the time.

I have some zoas/palys that do the same thing, and some only open for the first 5 minutes of my blues coming on. Try moving them lower in the tank?

On a similar vein with zoas... will hermit crabs eat the polyps or am I going crazy?

I have never seen them eat the polyps just algae in between them, I have had red legs, blue legs and white legged hermit crabs and never seen them eat any corals.

Mag seems low, you want around 1450. Helps stabilize Ca and Alk so you don't have swings.

Would that be causing my zoas not to open?

Can I add just straight salt to the tank to get the salinity up?

It's not advised but I have done it in the past to raise the salinity a .001 or .002, I always did it very slow and in a high flow area.

I do it all the time, in my sump. As long as you have enough volume to dilute yes. I would not bring it up more than a few points each day. As for the mag being low, keeping the zoas from opening, I can't answer that. Have you tried keeping them in your frag tank?
