I just went through this with a blonde naso. I put him in hypo for 4 weeks and he is fine now. salinity = 1.008
The ick fell off in a matter of several hours.

It's not that hard. I just took the salinity down slowly over about 3 days. Then maintain it for 4 weeks. Slowly bring it back up over 4 days. Then watch them for 4 weeks after salinity is brought back up. Eazy...
I feel it is easier on the fish than a harsh chemicals. But I've not used them either.

Why not do the tank transfer method?

40grit sand paper! No I'm kidding. I'm doing hypo on all my fish right now. I was scared to do it too. The advice I was given was solid and has gone over without a hitch. I'd like to share it...

1st) if you don't have one get a refractometer. My swing arm was WAY off like almost everyone who compares theirs against a refracto is. Hydrometer doesn't read 8 anyway.

2nd) get an ato for the hospital tank so you stay at 8 or very close. (I say 8 because I'm being lazy, you know what I mean).

3rd) drop salinity over 5-7 days. My fish didn't notice or show any signs of stress at all.

Final thoughts on this, if I can do it anyone else should feel comfortable putting this treatment into use. I'm about as steady handed as a chihuahua whose house is next to Regan national airport and as gentle as a bull in a China shop. My attention to detail, well, what attention to detail?

Best part, no expensive chemicals and now you have two pieces of equipment that are very useful in the hobby.
