Beautiful. I wish I was there to catch some with you. I'm going through salmon withdrawal.

The Alyeska Pipeline had an annual surplus equipment auction in Fairbanks. I recognized his son at the auction and started talking to him. I was also on a reality episode and we started comparing notes on how the film crews try to stage "reality." We were talking about how we'd like to see where the other works (he has a computer degree from U of AK and is interested in the radar), when his dad and Gene came over to join the discussion. We eventually got around to photos, which was cool. They were nice folks. Gene was really shy. Funny, but Steve Pomrenke from Bering Sea Gold walked up a couple minutes later. It's getting so that if you haven't been on an Alaska reality show you're in the minority here.

Auggie checking out some of the equipment at the Alyeska auction. I really liked the Rollagon. It was a huge auction with an amazing number of vehicles, from cranes to 4WD trucks, big generators, big rigs, heavy equipment, etc. Over 300 4WD pickups alone.

I'm ready for it to start again too. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but I watch every gold show that comes on. She thinks I'm crazy for other reasons than that though.

Hey Chris. John, the owner of Your Reef Aquarium in Roseville, CA says hi. He sells frags at the reef shows. Man, that guy sure has a ton of frags in his store. I'd guess a couple thousand.

There are still a lot of active placer claims all around the local area. The Ft Knox lode mine is as big as Fairbanks itself.

I got some of the backstory on the show from Tony's crew. Some of it is staged for dramatic effect. There are things they don't let the film crews film or they'd get in trouble. They only wear orange and hardhats on camera because US OSHA or the Canadian government would shut them down. Parker gets his shiny new trucks and excavators for free from Volvo, so he gets to keep most of the money he makes. Everybody hates the Hoffmans.

That doesn't surprise me a bit about the Hoffmans.
