the zoos are nuclear holocost, the green things in the back look to be GSP

FWIW, i would get rid of the nuclear holocosts... Those things grow like weeds... If your tank is healthy, they will take over your whole tank if you dont keep them in check.

no need to apologize... we all started as a newb at some point or another.. I have been in the hobby on and off for the last 10 years or so, and I still feel like I only know about 20% of what I really need to understand.

IF that's a sponge, leave it. Looks like cyano to me. Try blowing it off with a turkey baster. If out blows off readily, it's cyano. If not then I have no idea.

I have tried blowing it off even tried to pull it gently and it does not move.

Sponge it is then. As others have said, leave it. It's now part of your biological filter.

it also seems to be growing fairly quick... is that normal for a sponge?

mine always grew slow when I had them in there, but that could just be because my tank is deficient in whatever they eat... All the sponge died on my rocks when i let them chill in a dark container for a couple years in between tanks.
