Just wanted to get some ideas/help on weveryone thinks about this bulb. I have been running this bulb on my sump/refugium at about 10" above the water. My mangroves love it but the cheato doesnt seem to. The link above is the Phillips site which lists the specs. 4200K, 850LM and 16W. What do you all think?

So I down graded to a Phillips par30 11w led. 3000k and just under 500Lm. This one i can dim. Here is a pic of the refugium w/ chaeto and mangroves. http://tapatalk.com/mu/4b4711bf-e2c4-ccff.jpghttp://tapatalk.com/mu/4b4711bf-e2ea-7bb5.jpghttp://tapatalk.com/mu/4b4711bf-e333-e752.jpg

Its about the size of a small flood light, maybe 3 inches across. What you see is the clip on desktop fixture that houses it.

5100k seems to be the sweet spot for growing chaeto. Melvsreef has some tests with different bulbs and 5100 won out. they can only be ordered online :-(.. if you want to split shipping let me know.. i am looking to get new ones.

Nevermind I found it. Lol. Well I'm going to take my LED unit back to HD and see what they have. They might be able to order the same kind of bulb and then they can cover the shipping. Lol. I'll let u know what I find out.

Well I'm at HD and they have a R30 style flood light, 15w @ 5000k. Ecosmart compact fluorescent.

please post the part/model #, pics of the package. I have not had good luck finding anything close to 5100k, but I really need a new light in my fuge.

Interesting. Why kind of kelvin rating is that setup. Since it has a photo cell do u run it at night only?

i dont think I can fit that in stand, but it would be really close, My bulb is really old so I am pretty sure it is outside of the useable spectrum for my chaeto, and it is 2700k which really doesnt work great. I only have a 20 gal tall refugium with 3 chambers so that light would be lighting the full length of the chateo and then some. I am going to be building a 40 gal breeder for upstairs and that will probably be the choice for the new refugium. I can fit a bigger refugium under under the 40 gal. I'm gonna do a DSB in a 29 gal most likely.

Photocell is extra. You can also delete the cell, if you find one with it. IIRC, it is around 6500 K.

Just an FYI. any of the blue packaged ecosmart bulbs seem to be 5000k. I got a 120w equivalent R40 and it also is 5000k. I looked at a few more of them and if I couldnt find it on the package, it says it on the bulb.

Make sure you secure it and have a fail safe in case it decides to take a plunge. My Par38 decided to go swimming a few days ago and the corals didn't like it one bit, nearly everything died.

Just an update regarding this bulb. I have noticed an increase in my growth in my chaeto. I have also noticed the color is more of a medium/dark green instead of light green. It seems to really like the color.
