This guys spent $1100 building 1 light fixture to go over 1/2 of a 120 with 3w Cree and optics. (if I understand the video correctly)

Ok I watched them all. Very cool videos. Makes me want to keep running a fan across the top.

Was I right in my understanding that he spend $1100 on one fixture and is using two? Or, did he spend $1100 for both?

He said $1100 for both. Where did you hear about those vids??? :ciappa:

He also said he's only running at 30-40%. With wider angled optics you can run closer to their rated capacity and use fewer LEDs and fewer power units.

By the way, he got several facts wrong, but you have to be an electronics guru to know.

Come on nobody really thinks murk works when he's at work do they? I'll actually have the time to watch these while I'm on leave!

Murfman, i've had my leds in my tank for 2 weeks now. i'm noticing a lot of hair alge. it looks red under the leds. when i remove some by hand, sometimes it is green and sometimes its red. at the time i added my leds, i upgraded the pump and removed a water mover, for lack of a better word at the moment, from inside the tank. the new pump appeared to be really moving the water better as you could see the water dancing from the leds. any idea as to what might be causing this red hairy stuff. it is strange in some parts of the tank. on the sand, it appears to be growing like string out of the sand. every night when i get home, my leather has it draped over it like garland. it is not a gel either. thanks for your help!

Nancy, sounds like cyano bacteria. Can you take a picture of it?

I know these leds are so good lance's algea in his tank had a pretty color from the leds. I doubt his is cyano tho. Alot of my algea is gone since I switched MH spectrum and bulb. Plus my lawnmower is mowin it down. Wonder what the remaining algea will look like when I throw LED's on it. Damn I'm excited!!!! Woohoo
