What type of cleaning does everyone do with their protein skimmers? Complete removal and clean, brush it out where it sits. Is there a time duration? Do tell.
Thanks

I run mine in a muratic acid bath once every 3 or so months for an hour. Then rinse.

What percentage of Muriatic acid are you using?

I take mine out every 3 to 6 months, and clean the pump, and the venturi. My venturi for some reason likes to get really hard salt creep inside of it, almost like calcium. It chokes off the air supply and the skimmer stops producing. I can tell by looking at the bubbles when it starts to happen, but i do it every few months regardless. I use a drill bit to clean the venturi.

Mine gets the same stuff! I'm pretty sure that it is calcium that has precipitated out of the water! I've changed the location that I dose in my two part and that has cut down how quickly it builds up!

I use 1 cup of Muratic Acid added to about 3 or 4 gallons of water.

I was wondering about the strength of your acid! Muratic acid is hydrochloric acid and is available in strengths up to close to 50%. I was just wondering what strength and where you're getting it?

You can get it at Home Depot, it's with the concrete cleaners. It works great for calcium deposits. I don't remember what the % is exactly though, I think it was like 30% HCI. You can get it at Pool stores as well.
