I have been searching for a skimmer to put on the 120 that Im getting from Jfly. Someone is offering me an ASM G3 used for 250 shipped. I dont know about these skimmers and want to know what you guys think. Is this worth it and would this be a good skimmer for the tank? Thanks

What is your budget?

budget doesnt really matter. I just want to get a great skimmer that I wont want to upgrade in a year. I guess I dont want to spend more than 500 though. Thats why im willing to buy used

I have been looking at the ASM g3 and 4, the octopus extreme 200, and the euro reef rs250. Any suggestions?

i am in the same boat . i hear that the g-3 is great i see people on reef central using them on their 120 tanks. i am selling my g1 on my 120 because i hear it is not enough . the g-1 pulls alot of dark stinky stuff though, but i have decided that i am gonna go with the msx 200.

The MSX is a good skimmer.

Hey Ryan, I got a Octopus Extreme 200, which is exactly the same as a MSX200, if you want to come over and take a look before you get one.

my bad joe, i read it wrong.

I use a g-3 on my 150 frag tank and pull out 1 nasty cup a day for the money it is a fine skimmer IMO.

I think I want to put a Euro reef rs80 on the 55g breeder. Is 150 shipped a good price? And is this going to be enough skimmer if Im running a sump?

Rlee check into the newer vertex skimmers they are very nice and offer a lot of very nice features at an affordable price

Looks like a good deal, I did a quick search and the lowest I could find that model was $250. According to their lit you should have no problems with that skimmer unless you have a heavy bioload and want to keep SPS at the same time. Then it may not be big enough.

My wife wants to do a few sps and maybe 5-6 small fish

02-08-2009, 10:48 AM
mostly zoos and other softies though

02-08-2009, 11:09 AM
Ryan this one is down to $75.00.
