I recently added an ATO to my sump / tank. One morning while adding alkalinity[part 1 of my two part] I noticed that it wasn't mixing as it normally did. It formed a layer across the top of the water which was 1-2" thick. I thought, how weird. Today I noticed it again but the layer is a bit lower in the column[I think that I poured it in a little faster].
I am wondering if the RODI from the ATO[added in very small amounts slowly over time] isn't mixing well with the rest of the salt water from the tank? Maybe my flow has been slowed by the sponge between the last two chambers as it is becoming clogged?
My pump is a:
Aqua Excel Variable Speed / Wave Making DC pump
DC-3000LV 792GAL
GPH: 3000L / 800GPH
MAX HEAD: 5M Head

Trying to include photos but I keep getting an error message...

Maybe the flow down in there is too laminar. You could probably get it to mix better by just putting some rock that sticks up high enough to disrupt the flow?

Direct alk and direct calc dont mix in pure quantities. It looks like you are pouring calc in and do not have enough gone out of your return sump section before adding your alk.

Edit* Just looked at your pic again. Your return section is flowing directly to the pump. Which means all of your calc is sitting at the top of the section. Then your adding the alk directly into a small pool of calc. Try to raise your return pump a few inches and give an extra minute between doses.

My guess is that your two part was being disburssed properly until you raised the water level in your return section when you added the ato system.

I had actually only added part one, the alk... I normally wait 30+ minutes before adding part 2 the calc?
Raising the pump is a good idea which should help pull water from more of the return section

Then that is weird.

Could throw a small pump in there to agitate the sump.

I second that. I pour mine right into a power head, slowly. With that much height in your return chamber, you may be getting some stagnation. If the agitation in the RC does the trick, I'd recommend lowering your ato.
