View Full Version : advise on this lighting setup...

I have room to set up 3 pc bulbs in my canopy. I have 2 ballasts that run 2 bulbs each (thanks Joe!) The picture below is how I figured Id set them up.
As you can see I plan 2 50/50's with 1 dual atinic in the middle on the other ballast. The reason for this is so that I can run atinics only if I want. My question is, is this too much atinic? Should I run 3 50/50's or even 2 50/50's and 1 dual normal bulb? LMK what you think

What are you planning on keeping as far as corals? Anything other than softies will need much more lighting than that, but the blue color should look really cool.

I plan on softies only on this tank. Maybe some ric's higher up. I want some neon green hammer, frogspawn, and a few other softies.

Hammer and Frogspawn are lps corals and I don't know if you will have inough light for them or not. I keep both of those corals under pc's but they are more of the brighter variety bulbs, not so much actinic.

What size tank is it on? If it's long enough (24" min), you could try to squeeze a couple 11k T-5's between the PC to help brighten it up.

its a 29g...30" long

I'd slap a pair of 24" 11k T-5's between the PC's and call it done. Should be able to keep any Softy, LPS, and even some SPS...

Great setup w/ bulbs

Why don't you just make that center bulb a 50/50 as well and you'll have a balanced blue/daylight scheme.
You can keep anything under PC's, you just need to pack a lot of them in there and keep the light loving stuff near the upper 2/3rd's of the rockwork.

Heres an all PC lit 24" deep tank, lots of stoney corals, you can even see a tridacna maxima clam clear down on the sandbed doing very well (despite many thinking tridacnas cant be kept successfuly under pc's)

I just wanted to show what can be done with pc's, they aren't as useless as everyone thinks LOL
Back in the day it was either these or 175w MH's hehe

I also have a 29G all I have on it right now is 2 PC's. They are 65 watts each. One is 10K where the other one is 10K/6500K.
The corals I have are zoas, candy cane, mushrooms, and torch. They all are thriving. Those zoas that sits towards the bottom of the tank stretches upward to get more light. I presume that If I had one more bulb, the zoas at the bottom wouldn't be so "stalkly" :p

I hope this helps you somewhat.

JinxXx0085's 29gal is the bomb.

Well, I run two tanks on pc's, both are small tanks and they do grow lps nicely. My 33 cube is runing one 96 watt fixture and I have a beautiful Tracnaphilia (sp?), a bubble, frogspawn, and hammer, all looking and growing very well.

Alright man, you got tank! Looks great! I would probably go with three 50/50 bulbs. I think that's plenty of blue. You want bright too, don't forget..

thanks, yeah I might go with the extra 50/50. I just want to be able to have only atinics on sometimes
