Few of the Facebook group I'm in have been advocating this lately... Kinda goes against what common practice about micro bubbles in your display are... Or were... Or something

So how is it accomplished? A wooden airstone next to return pump intake? Put a huge pump on the return with a skimmer needlewheel instead of the normal paddle wheel? I'm very interested to read more about this as it makes sense

Everyone I've seen had been airstones in front of the return pump

I am going to get some wooden airstones today and an airpump and hook it up on cycles to my apex. try it out and see how the results turn out. It should help my ph swings

Any video of the water turning milky white and then clearing. An airstone in front of a return probably wouldn't be enough for that. More info needed.

I'll see what I can dredge up here in a little bit Joe

If you had a needle wheel pump that you were using as a return pump and turned on a solenoid to inject air or not, it would come out of the return into the tank like skimmer white froth

I've seen this before under a different name. Basically yes, an air stone that creates super micro bubbles and essentially turns your display into a giant skimmer. Only instead on collecting foam in a cup it raises everything to the surface where it can drain down the overflow and be collected out in your skimmer. I forget what this method is called but what I read advocated doing it once a day and starting off with small periods of bubbling and gradually increasing the duration of having the air stone on.

My thought was that we've all seen what happens when our top offs run a little low and the return pump blows a little air. Micro bubbles collect on our glass and rocks and what not, add in a light source and boom...algea. not sure how intentionally adding air into the water column w o u ls be any different but the idea and concept of using the entire tank as a skimmer does make some sense and peak my interest

Thank you for pointing out the main root of uglies problem. I need an ATO...

So this compared to a Bean Animal overflow?? Or used in conjunction. Would that equal a really clean tank?
