OK so here's the situation I have had 4 sand sifting starfish die on me now in the last four months.
The only things I have in my tank are a few emerald crabs, a few hermit crabs, 5 peppermint shrimp, and Nassarius Snails. I have two clown fish, blue hippo tang, anthias and Daughtyback back.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had a hermit crab that would eat my sand shifter

most likely the star was already dead or dying for that but it sounds like you dont have enough food for the sifter.

Actually. I removed the crab and the star lived until the tank crashed

I'd bet the tank has been running long enough to sustain a sand sifter.

How old is the tank? How big a tank? How deep is your sand bed?

The tank is turning a year at my house, but was transferred from JJs using the same water, sand and rocks. It is a 60gal cube, 24"x24"x24". Sand bed is about 2" deep.

I am assuming the 4 have been in there one at a time? IDK if that size tank can support enough microfauna for a sand sifter.

No. I have only had two in at a time.

I'd say one at a time would prolly work out. Paul is right. These dudes constantly feed on microfauna in the sand bed, in a tank your size, prolly not enough to sustain more than one at a time...
