Im having a difficult time choosing a skimmer for the 150 that I've been working on. I have set a budget of about $300 and theres so many choices out there that I feel lost. I want the ability to over-skim like always, just don't know what to choose....

I am on my 4th skimmer. The Skimz is an awesome choice, IMO. I love mine!

Looks like it's the sn143 that I would need should I go that route but it looks like it either discontinued or widely unavailable.
Looks like it's a great footprint too.

I do like the compact size. Murph, would you say that yours is performing as good or better than manufacture spec based on water volume?

Better for sure. I like that I have 3 ways to control too, DC pump power, air and then backpressure.

That seems to be a growing trend. I was also looking at nyos for those same features. The price difference is substantial though.

You sure the 143 is what you want?

Heavy Bioload (Most Common) - 90 gallons
Medium Bioload - 110 gallons
Light Bioload - 150 gallons

Hmmm. I found this at Aqua cave while looking. Someone added 100 gallons to the run capacity.

I have a Skimz as well and love it - it pulls out a ton of stinky dark stuff. However, I have yet to be able to get rid of the humming noise and since my tank is right next to my couch, it bothers me. Otherwise - it is awesome.
its a 161 monzter. I heard the model higher is less noisy.

I may be getting some skimmers in. They are from China so it's not a big name brand . But they look pretty good and cheap. They almost look like SWC skimmers. I can give you my number if your interested

More interested in actual details, features and verifiable customer reviews. I've spent alot of stupid money on skimmers in the past. Not doing that anymore. If you can get those details ill take a look.

How much bigger are you wanting to over skim?

In terms of calculated gallons I shoot anywhere from 50-100 gal above my total tank volume.

Look into bubble magus. The Curves are compact and the ppl I've brought them in for absolutely love them, and when compared to skimz skimmers, the price is a million times better

499 new but i see them used from time to time on reef central and masc. The skimmer is a complete work horse and an added benefit is that it is all internal where the vertex omega 150 that I have is external pump.
