So I've been doing a bit of thinking about controllers lately. Really think the Apex is cool and all, but the price always kinda made me shy away. However DA has a newish controller out I got to see and talk with them about at MACNA last year, the Archon. I've been keeping tabs on it online and today, finally had the opportunity to place my order. Pretty excited about the fact that all I had to order was the brain, as its compatible with all of my current reefkeeper stuff. So to me this was the most cost effective route. I'll be able to monitor both of my tanks and our 125 planted discus tank as well, which is nice. It has built in WiFi. I think the best part honestly is the possibilities this controller has. Unlike the Apex, it's open source, meaning anyone can write programs and functions for it that aren't natively supported by DA. I'll be sure to post up my newest toy once it arrives.

399 for the brain. Picked up a couple of pH probes as well.

What all of params can it monitor?

pH, orp, salinity, same shpeel as most. But if I read correctly the orp probe connection can be used for pH as well so it can do multiple probes, plus you can add SL modules for more probe expansion as well. All live graphing of parameters too

Yes sir. I think it officially launched late Jan early Feb. Gave em time to work out some kinks and the reviews I've read lately have been pretty positive

Chase, have you ever had an apex to compare the two?

I was hoping you'd give your .02 sschase as I saw on MASC you picked one up a whole ago. I was just reading on DAs website that this latest update is the last one you'll have to manually push yourself from here forward it'll all be capable of network updates. Hopefully so cause as little time as I already have to dedicate to the hobby that would help tremendously

Never had an Apex so can't really compare. Always had everything I needed to be done so no issues in general.

Does it have a way to log in remotely?

You can log in on any web browser remotely, be it on a phone or computer from my understanding. There's no app yet but I was on the DA forums last night and a future app is mentioned but not one by DA, a 3rd party builder. I can't imagine DA won't release their own though eventually. The my reef app was nice, when it worked

For remote log in you have to use port forwarding to log in but than can log in anywhere or something like that

So I didn't mean to leave everyone hanging with my review but u haven't installed the Archon yet, Saturday, instead LeAnn decided it was the to have a baby so as of early Sunday, we've been taking care of our newest self fragging family member!

Congratulations!

No excuse for a delayed installation and review though.

Congrats you two, wait so you have two presents to play with and LeAnn only has one? Not fair. Maybe you should bring the Archon to me and i'll test it for you. :)

So months later I finally have this bad boy hooked up. Gotta say it's pretty awesome. Right now it's running a 29g biocube. Once I figured out wiring of the LED drivers it was a breeze to hook them up and get them online using the archon's native 0-10v PWM dimming. Next step is figuring out how to wire jebao pumps into the controller as well.

The online interface is simple to use, graphs everything with as small as a 1 minute delay. I'm still trying to figure out port forwarding so I can check on things outside of my home network but eh, that's trivial. Also very soon going to be linking LeAnn's 125 planted tank to the Archon as well. Really like messing with it. Highly recommend the controller to anyone who uses reefkeeper systems. All previous modules are compatible. Just do it already Doyle ;)
