My Cal. Level are high always running at 600 checked with seachem and Salfirt test kits . I keep doing water changes every 3 or 4 days about 10%. But I can't seam to get the levels down. I check my salt mix Sechem before changing and it test good.

Am I making to much out of this or should I keep up with the water changes ? I have been doing this for over 2 months now.

Tank Size total water volume 200 gal.

Alk 7.9 to 8.1 dosed ones a week with Brightwell 8.2 alk buffer only 50 mil a week .
Mag 1380 holding steady no dosing needed.
Cal. 600 no dosing what so ever
Pho .01
N .00
Mixed reef few SPS Monties and Birdsnest , Zoes , Shrooms few other softies.

Was one rainbow bubble tip now the last 2 days I have 2 she split.

Ive kept a sustained calc of 650. Extra calcium won't hurt it's the alk that will nuke your system.

Thanks I have been worrying too much then and hopefully not doing as many water changes

If you have a club member living close to you ask them to test calc just to verify your test kit is working accurately

Here is a link to an article about calcium and alkalinity. This is the guy whose recipe for dosing I use. He has several articles on water chemistry that are really informative - lots of details, but a conclusion at the end to sum it up simply too. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-04/rhf/feature/

unless you are seeing calcium precipitating in the tank, you are OK. You would know if it was precipitating, you would have white slime all over everything, in the tank.

Thank you all for putting light to this I think I can breath easier with what you have said. No Precipitation in the tank or on heaters or pumps so I won't fret to much on it like I have been . I did just order a new Hanna Calcium test meter .
