Come xmas I will set up my new 75 DT with 40 gal sump with fluid designer insert. I need a skimmer since I currently run a HOB on my 55. The multitude of skimmers out there is overwhelming so I thought I ask the pros :)
What would be a good reliable skimmer? New or used? Am I looking for one rated for 75gal or 75+40 gal? I am rebuilding my stand but still don't want to make it super high so that the tank can be couch viewing height....in other words, a super tall model will not work!
Any recommendations?

I recommend reef octopus I run a dc model that is internal, keeping them internal helps just invade it over flows. The dc model is a low wattage pump that uses less power to run the skimmer. I would get one that is rated for double your volume to allow u to really stock the tank and still have the skimmer keep up w the bio load. Hope this helps

So double the total volume or just DT?

DT is fine. Bulk Reef supply (sponsor 10% discount if you are a premium member) has some good skimmers from Germany on their site.

Ok, so I'm looking for a 150~200 gal rated, German manufacturer? Just got the tunze osmolator and if my home country chooses to make their skimmers just as complicated, I'm out. Or you all can come over after Xmas to help me put this together...lol
