I would like to take a survey on how long you leave your display tank abd/or frag tank lights on. This is survey is for the purpose of determining coral growth rates vs. Algae growth rates. Please let me know if the blues are on longer than the whites.

I will update the first post as I get the responses.

Thanks

my blues start to come on about 8 am and ramp up to max about 2pm then start to ramp down about 6 finally off at 11pm. Whites start to ramp at 1pm and max out at 2pm for 4 hours then ramp down to zero by 8pm.

Blues for 11 hours and whites for 4 1/2 hours. Minimal algae, but do need to scrape the harder algae (won't come off with magnet) once every week to week and a half.

I run my blues 7 to 8 and my 400w 14k halide from 11 to 5, great growth but was thinking of cutting the halides off at 4 to see if the hour less helps... The whole lighting starvation thing... I used to run whites more than blues but switched my cycle and saw some pretty awesome growth.
Last time I checked my watch this was America!

My razor settings are:
830a 0w, 0b
10a 0w, 60b
12p 80w, 95b
6p 80w, 95b
8p 0w, 95b
1130p 0w, 0b

w=10hr
b=15hr

Between time points the controller ramps up or down across that time period. Gives a gentle up & down, and a bit of the all blue glow in the eve.

I turn on my blues from 8am-9am, then whites come on until 9pm, blues stay on till 10pm and then fish go to bed with only my ambient red rope light on the bar in the basement to keep them company. I will be switching out the red rope lights for blue, I just need to swing by JJs house to pick them up lol.

Blues on from 1200 -2200, whites from 1400-1800.

Not apart of your original question but whites on sump run 2100-1300.

Might have something to add to your interest I dunno, Just know it helps keep ph stable-er. I have noticed my skimmer goes bananas at night and when I'm gone from lunch is usually full of skim mate

Having sump lighting on opposite cycle keeps the oxygen producing algae producing which keeps the Ph stable.

I know. Does ph play a factor in his question of coral growth and color or whatever it was (sorry not going back to read lol)

Oh now I remember, Coral vs. Aka algea growth.

Isn't Coral growth partly due to the whatever is called algea in corals feeding and thus promoting skeletal growth of coral. Amd isn't actual algea growth more of a result of excess nutrients in the system combined with lighting

So your saying is if I have a lot of algae then I should get more corals ? ........... Take that as a yes ! Getten me more corals !
