Since I am changing out tanks, and starting over, I am thinking changing lighting as well. I saw the AI Hydra 52s at MACNA and love how they look in the tank. Problem is, I would need 4 to cover my 8' tank.

The Maxspect Razor, in 16000K comes in a 300W version that is 44.5" wide so I would need 2.

Anyone using the AIs? (Brian) What about the Razor? I like the spectrum in the Razor a little more as it has some of the higher frequencies the Hydra doesn't.

so far I am not that impressed with the Hydras but I did not like the Razor much either. You have to have the director for the Hydras and so far it has been pretty unpredictable. and to achieve a look that I like, I end up turning all the other colors off or way down. Personally I like the Radions way better than either of these.

Love mine as well. I have the xr30 pro's. You would still need 4 though

I talked to these guys at macna for a while, they seem like really good lights and are fairly affordable as well. Lets see some pics lenny

Kessils 360w without a doubt a great light awesome spread and spectrum. I don't think AIs comes anywhere near kessil.

Man I have owned a lot of lights I didn't like the Kessil at all until the controller came out. Honestly I would take a SOL over the Kessil.

You know what might be fun at one of the upcoming meetings is if we bring in several different popular LED setups, hang them over a tank with water only, take some PAR readings from a few different positions in the tank and post the results here. We could also make subjective comments about the color.

Okay, maybe water only wouldn't be good, maybe something with a few different representative corals in it. I was just thinking different tank than a display for ease of putting the different lights over it. You'd need some kind of a standard mount over the tank like an acrylic piece so everything was the same.

Another idea is to mount them side by side on different ends of a larger tank so you can see them directly up against one another. I've found this is the best way to compare different lighting setups as it's pretty difficult to simply look at them and know how much you like them without a comparison.

Pain in the backside? Maybe, but it shouldn't be that difficult.

Love our Razor 16k. Great growth & color, programming is easy and solid. You're welcome to come on over and check it out. I'll have a couple radion pros fired up on the new tank within a week or 2 so you can compare. The only reason I went with radion on the new one was that I had one already, otherwise I would have put a razor on that too.
