I can get a bubble king 200 mini for $1016 and free shipping and wondered if its a good deal. I really didn't want to drop a grand on a skimmer but these seam to be highly rated. Is there something as good or close for less? I have 215 and would like to stock it pretty heavy. If there are price points were you get the best bang for the buck let me know.

Best up to $500
Best up to $750

From what I hear the mini's don't perform that well. I guess it's because the pump is under the bubble plate and that coupled with the low height makes for a very short bubble contact time. The supermarin or the deluxes are a better choice but alas more expensive.
If you watch the Reef Central for sale forum you'll come across good deals on used ones once in a while. The super 200 on my frag system works excellent. I didn't have to mod anything, I adjusted it a couple times at first and it skims nice and dark and never has an overflow accident.

Were does the law of diminishing return come into play with skimmers. What price point does the gains not equal the increase in price?

beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
But seriously, its a rule similiar to the brides wedding ring, you should spend 3 months salary on a skimmer whatever that amount may be.
