View Full Version : Is 75 gallon skimmer good for 90?

The motor on my skimmer went out and I need a new one... I have a 90 gallon tank and have lots of rock in tank... I was recommended a 75 to stay in price range and was assured since the rock and substrate takes up so much of the tank it would really only be skimming 75 gallons or less anyways... Would anyone recommend this or not condone it? I'm looking for any feedback on skimmers..,thanks

What kind of skimmer/pump is it? There may be someone that has a pump laying around for it.

Also whats the new skimmer your looking at ? and have you considered a used skimmer? you can find some good used skimmers for fair prices on here, craigslist and masc site.

Under skimming is better than no skimming. I also believe that you can over skim. I run my skimmer only 12 hrs a day.

The skimmer I have is kind of a Frankenstein build that a friend of mine had and is older... The pump is a beruty cap 2200, 115v/60hz, 33watt... I'd like to find a newer full assembly if the price is right... If anyone knows anybody getting rid of any skimmers I would definitely be interested... The one I was looking at is at seascape and for the life of me I can't remember the name buts made for 75g and is an Italian built newer design...
