So tonight I noticed some of my acans and favias have this nasty slimy brown stuff. From what I have read this is a bacteria infection of some kind. How do I do an Iodine dip? Also I read about adding Vitamin C? What kind? Please help.

For an iodine dip you follow the directions on the bottle, usually a small amount in tank water letting the corals sit for a min. I would try to siphon the slime out while doing a water change.

I siphoned the coral off. It went from 9 heads to 4. The five heads that are gone are just a skeleton.

Has it been moved recently? Flow change? Light change?

No. That is what is strange. It has been in the same place since I got it. I have removed it and done the iodine dip. It is now back in the tank. I will begin using vitamin C. I will see what happens. I was able to get all the brownish stuff off. I spoke to a LFS and they said it proabably can be saved. We will see. I may just stick with Zoas now. I have no luck with anything else.

I have lost 5 big SPS colonies and just lost my lemoneye Acan. I think it is because of tank temp. Only thing I can figure.

A couple of weeks ago my tanks got up in the 86-87 range for a day. My corals suffered a severe setback and I lost a sailfin tang. Now the corals are surviving but not too pretty right now. Mostly acans, duncans and my monti caps.

I found another one today with the same slimey stuff. Should I just dunk all my Acans to be safe? They are the only thing being affected?

This is what it looked like before I got all the slime off.

The favia is looking good and no additional loss. The Acan was dipped and no additional loss.

Here are my Params. I am thinking Calcium is low. I am going to retest and make sure that is accurate. Anything else look bad? Where should my Calcium be?

Params are as follows:

PH 8.2
Ammonia-0
Nitrate-0
Nitrite-0
Temp 79
Salinity- 1.26
Copper 0
Alk-8
Calcium- 280

Chad, drop the salinity a little bit. 1.026 is where SPS only keepers keep it. Get it to 1.024-5. Calcium is way low, you want 450 minmum.

Thanks Paul. Other than that everything else looks ok? I bought some Kent Marine Turbo Calcium. Should I add this? From what I read it helps get the Calcium level up.

yes but keep an eye on your alk and pH as well. Don't want them spiking.

In your opinion what is the best test kit for all of this stuff?
