I need some guidance on this. I'm gathering things for a SH set up. I'm using a 47 column, I have a plan for all the other equipment minus lighting. I'm pretty lost on the lighting aspect. I want a few corals in the tank, along with various plants. With the tank being 30"'s in depth whats my best lighting choice? I really want to try my hand at a DIY LED fixture, but not sure even where to start. I don't want to cook the stuff that will be in the aquarium but I want enough light to grow my coral and plants.

Thank You,
Aaron

I've used power compacts, metal halides, t5's, and LEDs. I recommend LEDs because they make the corals look amazing and there less hassle. Only down side that I can see from my 90 with the two 120w evo's compared to my 120 with two 400w halides is the sps grow slower but the color look great.
Hope this helps :)
